Case Study 3 - Essex Boys

1 comment:

  1. Organisation of text and screen shots are a bit of a problem, in any further case studies make sure the text is readable and not masked by screen shots.

A mainly proficient analysis: To strengthen:

    1) Lighting, it is important to mention one of the key aspects of lighting in the establishing shot of the garage; the use of chiaroscuro lighting in the garage immediately injects the mise-en-scene with menace and foreboding whilst also the lighting design adds to aesthetic appeal.

    2) The use of vanishing point in the point of view shots in the Dartford Tunnel add to enigma whilst indicating that Billy is entering another dimension.

    3) Jason's attack on the grass that put him inside is another key feature of a gritty thriller and that is the use of extreme violence. When Fat Mo is beaten up by the corrupt police in the beginning of Once Upon a Time in America, Sergio Leoni is using a similar convention. The use of extreme violence is also in the final sequence of Heavenly Creatures when the two girls bludgeon to death the mother of one of them.

    4) Try to make more inter textual references to raise you analysis to a confident A grade.

At present a mainly proficient analysis, particularly that you identified cultural references. Level 3 : Grade B
